Before becoming a painter,
Gumb studied the Greek and Roman classics at Princeton University
and later pursued graduate studies in ancient art at New
York University's Institute of Fine Arts during which time
he also lived and traveled in Greece. "Ancient art
and culture have always fascinated me," he says, "and
I think one can see their influence in some of my own work."
Gumb had a one man exhibition
at the Clinical Center Galleries at The National Institutes
of Health, Bethesda, MD in 1997 and also at The Student
Gallery, The Washington Studio School in 2000. He also frequently
exhibits in the juried monthly shows at The Art League Gallery
at The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia. He is represented
in a number of American and European private collections,
including the collection of The National Institutes of Health,
